Enhancement
Supplement learning opportunities in the Sedona-Oak Creek School District
Our Foundation works to improve the quality and value of education in the Sedona Oak Creek Unified School District for ALL students. Highlighted are some of the ways the SOCEF is enhancing education for Sedona's students.
Those making things happen in our community...
Starting in the fall of 2021, the Wildcat Extended Day Program (formerly Wildcat Kids Club) provides working parents with a FREE option for childcare for their children age kindergarten to 5th grade. Open at 6:30am for before school with free breakfast served and available until 6:00pm with after school activities, this program aims to help parents with childcare and the Sedona business community in attracting more employees. The program has been funded for the first year by a generous donor but will need donations and grants to continue into the future.

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. STEM related learning is important in schools and at home, as it provides an opportunity for children to learn about topics and disciplines that will serve them well later in life. A quality STEM program requires teacher training in best practices with equipment and materials for hands-on learning. West Sedona School is growing a top-notch STEM program with the help of a generous donor, but there is more to do. Your donation will help grow this.

Jawn McKinley and Pam Hollenbach of SedonaKind present a $4000 check to the Sedona Oak Creek Educational Foundation Board members Jennette Bill, Randy Hawley, Jake Weber, and Superintendent Dennis Dearden. The funds will support the foundation’s student enhancement programs.
"We believe all our children should receive the best educational opportunities available, and if the funds aren't in our State budget, our community can step up and help,” said SedonaKind Board Member Jawn McKinley and Kindness in Schools committee chair Pam Hollenbach. “We're thrilled to be able to contribute." |
The SOCEF gladly accepted donations from the Scorpion Booster Club, the Rotary Club of Sedona, SedonaKind and the West Sedona School PTSA to help fund the Capturing Kid’s Hearts program being instituted across all campuses.
In 2019, Sedona-Oak Creek Unified School District contracted with the Flippen Group to meet the needs of students through the adoption of Capturing Kids' Hearts. This education solution to lowering the anxiety and stress of students to raise the bar of student performance has shown great success across the district. Currently in Phase 1, the implementation of Capturing Kids' Hearts began with teacher training and curricula implementation at the elementary and middle school levels. The initiative will continue with more staff being trained and a process put in in place to provide a continuum of Capturing Kids' Hearts across the district. |
